The Summer Music Program at West Islip is now entering its 31st successful year!

Each section will consist of a THREE-WEEK course of intensive study in the Band, Orchestra, or Choral idiom. . The program begins on Monday, July 8 and ends on Thursday, July 25.

****The total cost for each section is $150****

Level 1 —Beginning Band and Orchestra (M, T, W) 9:30am – 11am (@West Islip High School)

(Students entering 4th grade in Sept 2024). Level 1 group instrumental classes will be offered on the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass. This class is for students just starting to play an instrument.

Level 2 —Elementary Band and Orchestra. (M, T, W) 8am – 9:30am (@West Islip High School)

(Students entering grades 5 & 6 in Sept 2024). Level 2 Band/Orchestra rehearsals with group instrumental classes will be offered on the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Cornet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass. This class is for elementary students already in band or orchestra in their school.

Middle School Orchestra – (M & W) 11am – 1pm (@West Islip High School)

 (Students entering grades 7-9 in Sept 2024) — Orchestra rehearsals with repertoire that will include string classics, 

as well as popular music. Instruction will be offered on the following instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass. 

Middle School Jazz Pops Band – (M & W) 11am – 1pm (@Beach Street Middle School)

 (Students entering grades 7-9 in Sept 2024) — Band rehearsals that include popular music, jazz, blues, and improvisation. Instruction will be offered on all Band instruments. 

High School Pops Chorus – (T & Th) 6pm – 8pm (@West Islip High School)

(Students entering grades 9 – 12 in Sept 2024) — SATB Singing Ensemble. Repertoire will include popular artists and musicals with an emphasis on vocal technique, style, and stage presence. 

HS Symphonic Pops—6pm – 8pm—M & W (@West Islip High School)

(students entering grades 10-12 in Sept 2024) Band Pops and Orchestra Pops combined into Symphonic Pops rehearsals. Repertoire will include jazz, fusion, and popular music. Instruction will be offered on all Band and Orchestra instruments.

HS Show Choir — 8pm – 10pm — T & Th (@West Islip High School)

(Students entering grades 10–12 in Sept 2024) SATB Singing and Dancing Ensemble.  Emphasis will be on vocal technique, stage presence and movement. 

All brass and woodwind instruments used in the program must be secured from your home school Band or Orchestra teacher, or through your local instrument rental company. Please see your home school Orchestra or Band teacher for more information so you can reserve your instrument ASAP for the start of the program.
